Current situation of the introduction of mandatory EU migrant quotas has come to a deadlock. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, UKRINFORM reports with reference to Reuters.
“There is a deadlock which we are unable to solve”, - said the politician.
He also said that he proposed the EU leaders to remove the question of forced distribution of migrants in the EU states from the summit agenda, but European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker rejected this proposal.
Orban also added that the European Council has asked the Prime Minister of Slovakia, as a holder of the EU-presidency, to draft proposals for the problem solution until next summit.
It was reported that Hungary's referendum on mandatory EU migrant quotas, which was held on 2 October 2016, was declared invalid due to low voter turnout - 45% instead of the required 50%.
